"Face-to-Face with Editors" Symposium

On June 17, 2024, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering held a symposium themed "Face-to-Face with Editors". The symposium invited three distinguished guests: Dr. Sun Jiqing from the journal Chem, Dr. Yang Nan from the journal Chem Catalysis, and Dr. Ma Qiuming from the journal Cell Reports Physical Science. The meeting was presided over by Wang Peng, Dean of the Institute of Carbon Neutrality and Green Development.  

At the symposium, the three journal editors first gave detailed overviews of their respective journals, including the journals' positioning, goals, covered research fields, and influence in the academic community, etc. 

Subsequently, they shared the specific requirements of their respective journals for articles, ranging from the innovation of research topics, the scientificity of research methods, the reliability of results to the norms of paper writing, providing clear submission guidelines for the teachers and students present.  

In addition, the three editors also shared the internal editorial processes and review procedures of the journals in depth, revealing various stages from manuscript submission to final publication, including preliminary review, peer review, revision, and final acceptance decisions, etc. 

They emphasized the key role of editors in this process and how to ensure the fairness and scientificity of the review. 

Finally, drawing on their own review experience, the three editors shared common issues encountered during the review process as well as suggestions for writing and submission. They encouraged the teachers and students present to focus on innovation and rigor in their research and to clearly express their views and research results in writing. This symposium provided a valuable opportunity for teachers and students to communicate directly with editors of top journals, helping to improve their academic writing and submission skills and promoting the academic development of the school.
