On May 30, 2024, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering held an academic report meeting on innovation leading sustainable development. The report was given by Professor Hayat Sindi from The Institute for Quality in Saudi Arabia, with the theme "Living Through Innovation", and was presided over by Wang Peng, Dean of the Institute of Carbon Neutrality and Green Development.

In the report, Professor Hayat Sindi pointed out that promoting the world's development onto a sustainable path requires not only scaling up the application of existing appropriate technologies, but also radical innovation and changes in thinking and behavioral patterns.

Technology alone cannot ensure sustainable development, so innovation (including social innovation) is crucial to triggering these changes and making behavioral changes appealing.

She shared her rich experience in science, technology and innovation, especially social innovation, and elaborated on how innovation has become a key driver for promoting sustainable development and global transformation.
